چکیده

Standard practice in response surface methodology performs factor screening and response surface exploration sequentially, using different designs. A novel approach is proposed to achieve the two objectives on the same experiment, based on one design. Running a uni-stage experiment has the advantages of saving experimentation time and run size. The approach is based on a two-stage analysis that employs factor screening, projection and response surface exploration. Projection-efficiency criteria are defined to evaluate the performance of the projected designs. The projection-efficiency properties of the 3n−k designs and three nonregular designs are studied, and comparisons with central composite designs are made. Nonregular designs appear to enjoy better projection properties. The strategy is illustrated with the analysis of a PVC insulation experiment.

Synergistic effects of Iranian seaweed compounds for anticandidal properties and optimization by Response Surface Methodology

An optimization procedure was applied to investigate the anticandidal property of four different Iranian seaweed extract compositions. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with the four levels- three–factor Box–Behnken design, including Gracilaria arquata concentration (X1), Nizimudidnia zanardini concentration (X2), Cystoceria indica concentration (X3) and Padina australis concentration (X4), wa...

Screening and Optimization of Microextraction of Pb(II) by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Using Response Surface Methodology

Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) combined with inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was applied for the determination of lead in different environmental water samples. Ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (APDC), chloroform and ethanol were used as chelating agent, extraction solvent and disperser solvent, respectively. The effective parameters, such...

Iron leaching from bauxite ore in hydrochloric acid using response surface methodology

In this work, hydrochloric acid is used to remove iron impurities in the bauxite ore contained in the diasporite mineral located in the Sari region. The bauxite ore was calcined at different temperatures and times, and then dissolved in a hydrochloric acid solution. After determining the optimum calcination conditions in 1 h at 900 °C, the response surface methodology (RSM) with four factors in...

Investigation of stepped planning hull hydrodynamics using computational fluid dynamics and response surface method

The use of step at the bottom of the hull is one of the effective factors in reducing the resistance and increasing the stability of the Planning hull. The presence of step at the bottom of this type of hulls creates a separation in the flow, which reduces the wet surface on the hull, thus reducing the drag on the body, as well as reducing the dynamic trim. In this study, a design space was cre...

Response of surface optimization for the enhanced production of alkaline protease isolated from Bacillus sp. with bean husk as a new substrate

Optimization of the fermentation medium for maximum alkaline protease production was carried out. Fifteen positive isolates were examined for their extent of alkaline protease production. The most potent producer was identified as Bacillus sp. The solid substrate screening showed that the combination of wheat straw and bean husk was the best one. The initial screening by using Plackett–Burman’s...
